Clean up several clips at once

Runs on this computer. No credits. Everything you switch on is one Undo step.

Steps

  1. Select clips on the main row (Shift-click or drag a box), then press Clean up in the bar above the timeline. On a narrow window it is under More.
    • One clip: More › Clean up…
    • Every clip: Edit › Clean up all clips… in the menu bar.
  2. Switch on what you want. Each row says what it will do before you switch it on.
  3. Watch the result in the preview: it applies as you switch.
  4. Press Done (or Esc). The top of the panel says what was done, with Undo.

The four switches

SwitchWhat it doesExample of what the row says
Remove pausesCuts out the quiet parts"4 pauses · 8.7 s shorter"
Captions from speechAdds captions for what is said"6 captions · edit in Text › Captions"
Mute clip soundTurns the clips' own sound off"2 clips"
Normal speed (1×)Plays sped-up or slowed clips at normal speed again"2 clips back to 1×"

The first time, Remove pauses and Captions from speech check the clips first ("Finding pauses… 40%"). You can close the panel meanwhile: it applies when ready.

5 more details
  • Clips it can't change are listed under "kept as it is", with the reason: locked, a photo, no sound, a compound clip, or has captions already.
  • Captions go on the caption track, where Text › Captions edits and styles them. They need the speech model; Edivo asks before the one-time download. See Captions from speech.
  • A check that finishes after you closed the panel applies as its own Undo step.
  • To clean up inside a compound clip, open it first.
  • Removing background noise from a voice is something else: Audio › Reduce noise in the left rail.
