Keep the subject in frame

Made on this computer. No credits.

Start it

  1. Press the shape tag above the video.
  2. Pick a shape, for example Vertical 9:16, with Keep the subject in frame on.
  3. The new shape shows at once, with each shot centred.
  4. Then each shot starts to follow its subject, beginning with the shot at the playhead.

While it works

WhereWhat it shows
Message at the topKeeping the subject in frame, for example "2 of 6 shots · about 10 s left", a progress line and Stop
Shape tagFor example "Vertical 9:16 · framing 17%"
Shape menu"17% done" and Stop

You can keep editing. A shot you delete, lock or animate meanwhile is left alone.

Undo

  • Ctrl+Z takes back the whole shape change in one step, also while it runs.
  • Edited during the run? Your edit is its own Undo step, and the framing after it is another.
8 more details
  • Stop keeps the new shape and the shots already framed. To go back to the old shape, press Ctrl+Z.
  • Back to the first shape (for example Wide after Vertical)? The framing the reframe made goes, and each shot shows its whole picture again. Motion you set yourself stays, and so does a locked shot.
  • Undo, another shape or another project stops it straight away.
  • Closed the message? The shape tag and the shape menu still show the progress and Stop.
  • Run it again after trimming clips, or on a copy of the project, and Edivo reuses its earlier work, so it is much faster.
  • Advanced: the Auto reframe dialog shows "Analysing footage… 42%". Cancel stops it.
  • The preview and the export use the same framing.
  • For TikTok, Reels and Shorts, see Make a vertical video (9:16).
